You can see Lake Hart as you travel along the Stuart Highway towards Woomera in South Australia. There is a large parking area overlooking this salt lake with plenty of room to pull off the road when towing a caravan. This lake looked huge although apparently only a fraction of the size of other salt lakes in this part of the country.
We decided to take a walk over the red sand hills to the shoreline and take a closer look. You will need to walk over the railway track to reach the edge of the lake - make sure you have good shoes as the red sand can be very hot underfoot. The dry salt beds around the perimeter of Lake Hart crunch under your feet. We were lucky enough to see a goods train pass by when we were standing near Lake Hart - what a great experience and lots of photos.
