After staying at the Nullarbor Roadhouse for the night we headed off towards Ceduna with our first stop being the Head of the Bight. This is a great facility which allows visitors to view the Southern Right Whales when they congregate here to give birth during winter. The whales will the often stay for several months - this year they saw 170 whales which included 70 young - what amazing sight that would have been!
There is an entry fee to use the walking paths and viewing platforms on the cliffs overlooking this wonderful marine park. It is quite a long walk from the Information Centre but the spectacular views of the Bunda cliffs and large sand dunes make this a very worthwhile stop. The parking area is large with plenty of room for caravans and large rigs - covered picnic tables and eco toilets are located close to the parking area.
We will definitely be returning to the Head of the Bight to view the whales for ourselves during winter.
