Normanton is a small cattle town in the Gulf Country region of northwest Queensland, Australia, just south of the Gulf of Carpentaria, on the Norman River. The town's population is 1,100, 60 per cent of whom are Indigenous Australians. The town is one terminus of the isolated Normanton – Croydon Railway, which was built during gold rush days in the 1890s. The Gulflander motor train operates once a week.

After staying overnight at the Burke and Wills Roadhouse on the Burke Development Road we headed north to Kurumba - stopping at Normanton for lunch and to look around this small town in north Queensland. On the main road there is a replica of the largest crocodile caught in Australia. This is reported to have been shot by a woman from Karumba with a single shot to the head - the Crocodile is 8.63 metres long.

We decided to try the iconic café called Gobble and Go so headed around to Thompson Street for a coffee to have with lunch. Streets are very wide and Normanton was quiet during our visit - we had no trouble finding a park for the caravan. As we headed north the road runs past the Mutton Hole Wetlands - full of waterlilies and water birds - Brolgas, Cranes, white egrets etc. There was still plenty of water laying around when we drove through this area in May
