Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park is about 100 kilometres west of Gregory Downs in Queensland along an unsealed road but we found it to be in very good condition when we visited this area. We camped for a couple of nights at Adels Grove and spent time exploring Boodjamulla Naitonal Park.

We hired paddles at Adels Grove and headed to the National Park to pick up the canoe and explore Lawn Hill Gorge. This is absolutely beautiful - keep an eye out for the amazing birdlife. You will need to carry your canoe across rocks (about 30 metres) if you want to paddle along the upper gorge to see the spring that feeds this waterway. Hand rails and non-slip mats have been installed by the National Park to help.

We explored several of the walking tails within Boodjamulla:

  • Island Stack - great  panoramic view of Lawn Hill and the gorge. The climb was quite steep but some rocks have been cemented in to make it more stable. This was rated as a difficult walk and we are very pleased we had walking sticks with us. There is a 1.7 k walk around the top of the stack and we took some great photos. We saw budgies in the wild again as well as an azure kingfisher.
  • Cascades - a very flat walk. Unfortunately the cascades were not flowing but the ponds were clear and we saw quite a few little fish.

There are several other walking trails to explore on our next visit - some of these take several hours to complete. You can also camp within this National Park - fees apply and you will need a permit. There are toilets and cold showers - no fires or generators are allowed. This is a beautiful spot and is very popular with visitors to the area - a large car parking area is provided beside the information centre. There are plenty of information signs on display that tell you about the history of the area and what types of plants and animals you might see during different seasons within this beautiful national park.
