We stayed overnight at Julia Creek while towing our caravan along the Flinders Highway from Hughenden to Mount Isa. The Road between Richmond and Julia Creek is very bumpy - like a roller-coaster and there are lots of stops for road works.

Julia Creek is a lovely tidy town and our first stop was the Visitor Information Centre to check the feeding time of the Julia Creek Dunnart the following morning. This is a small marsupial mouse only found in the Julia Creek area and is listed as endangered - a tiny, rare and bright-eyed creature whose numbers have suffered massive blows from feral cats and foxes. Numbers are slowly beginning to stabilise and you will be able to see the Julie Creek Dunnart while it is being fed.

The Julia Creek Visitor Information Centre, called 'At the Creek', is a main attraction in town with a multi-award winning Interpretative Centre, and museum.  Beautifully well designed and created using new and old buildings.

RvTrips stayed at the Julia Creek Caravan Park which is within easy walking distance to town. We had a large level drive-through site - amenities are old but clean and spacious. This small town also has a designated free camping area alongside the water's edge of Julia Creek. This area is suitable for self-sufficient RV's and is located 1.3km from town (on the eastern side) - picnic tables, bush cook camps and bins are provided. When we drove through the free camp they had a camp host on site to register your stay and provide a permit (valid for 96 hours) - you can also obtain a free permit from the Visitor Information Centre.
