Cape Tribulation, situated between Port Douglas and Cooktown, is an iconic part of the Queensland coast, where they say, 'the rainforest meets the sea'. We have always wanted to visit this beautiful area and set off on a day trip from our accommodation at Port Douglas.  The road can be very busy with a number of tour buses and cars visiting the area each day.

This is a natural home for the Cassowary so keep your eyes open for this large flightless bird with a blue head.  We were lucky enough to see one crossing the road on our return journey.

We stopped for lunch at Cape Trib Beach House, enjoying our meal at Tides Bar and Restaurant while looking into the rainforest.  Parking is near reception and then walk down the path to the restaurant near the beach.  After our lunch we walked along the short path to the beautiful beach. A sign across the walkway said 'Beach Closed – Crocodile sighting' - we understood this to mean no swimming so we carefully walked onto the beach to take photos of Cape Tribulation.

One the way back down the Captain Cook Highway we stopped at Lookout Point.  A busy car parking area with a short boardwalk to the lookout back over Cape Tribulation. Lovely views but unfortunately it was low tide so the beach did not look as spectacular as it does at high tide. Many of the visitors on this boardwalk were fascinated to see a Goanna eating a small animal just below the path. Another reason to look carefully when walking in the rainforest - you never know what you might see.

A trip to Cape Tribulation is highly recommended by RvTrips - there are lots of things to see on the way so I guarantee it will take more time than you think.
