Valley of the Winds walk is a 7.4 kilometre circuit that takes you through several of the rock formations that make up Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in the Northern Territory. This walk is definitely worth doing if you have good walking shoes and plenty of water. Sunscreen is a must and I also carried a walking stick to help with balance when walking over rocks and climbing Karingana Lookout (of course fly nets are also essential at certain times of the year). There are a couple of water stations situated along the trail and it is recommended that you drink 1 litre every hour while walking in the heat of outback Australia.
The Valley of the WInds walk will give you some perspectie as to how large some of these rocks actually are when they are towering above you. The tallest rock is believed to be over 500 metres above the ground. A sign at Karu Lookout (about one kilometre from the car parking area) will tell you whether the walk is open for the day - it is closed if too hot or too windy.
We would suggest that you head out to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) early as it is about 50 kilometres from Ayers Rock Resort (Yalara). A fee to enter the National Park is payable at the Park Entry Station and it cost us $25 per person for a three day pass. This allows you plenty of time to visit Uluru and Kata Tjuta as many times as you like within the allocated period.
RvTrips highly recommend the Valley of the Winds Walk.
