Wellington is a small town on the Mitchell Highway, not far from Dubbo. We found the Visitor Information Centre very good - they sell some locally made products as well as providing valuable information about the area. The gardens around this Visitor Information Centre are well maintained, very enjoyable to walk through (Cameron Park) - take note of the unusual palm trees along the path.

Lake Burrendong is not far from town and a popular fishing and boating area. It is a great for caravanning and camping and is very busy during the warmer months. Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum was established in 1964 and covers a large area of land overlooking the picturesque lake.

Wellington is on the junction of two rivers which makes it a great place to go canoeing. Wellington Caves are just out of town and well worth a visit - the caravan park beside the caves is neat and tidy and located beside the golf course. Adjacent to the car parking area for the Wellington caves is the Wellington-Osawano Japanese Garden - a lovely tranquil place with water falls, meandering paths, water features and seating areas.

Wellington is a very interesting and lovely little place to stop and explore while travelling trough western NSW.
