The Southern Tablelands is west of the Great Dividing Range and is a major farming area producing some of the best wool in Australia. You will find the Big Merino at Goulburn on the Hume Highway - a great place to stop if you wish to purchase some warm, stylish handcrafted woolen products.
The Southern Tablelands has lots of wide open spaces and many of the rural towns are worth visiting for their craft shops and locally made products - Bungendore, in particular, has a huge range of beautiful products created from local timber.
