Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park     Read more ...

Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park is about four hours drive south of Broome (on the beachfront between Port Hedland and Broome), and is a beautiful, relaxing place to spend a few days. The Caravan Park is approximately eight kilometres off the Great Northern Highway along a well maintained dirt track. The sites are shady and large - we were allocated a drive-through site on the end of the row (site 13) and we had plenty of space as well as privacy. The caravan parks has about 150 grassed powered sites and 50 unpowered sites - or you can stay in one of their self contained cabins. They are extremely busy at certain times of the year - during the peak season you may be asked to spend a night on an unpowered.

The reception area has a small shop which is open 7 days a week during the busy tourist period (April to October) and stocks a range of grocery items. Generators provide power to the Caravan Park and the bore water is plentiful enough to ensure the ground is well covered with grass. The park also has full Telstra coverage - very convenient to call the kids.

We had been advised by other travellers that this was the place to stay when heading south from Broome - we are glad we took their advice. The beach is very close and the dunes protect you from the wind. We only had two nights at Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park - not enough. On our next trip we will allow more time to explore the beach further and try some more fishing.

Eighty Mile Beach is also famous for shell collecting - I advise you to wear thongs or shoes as the shells crunch underfoot. The sunsets in this part of Australia are quite magnificent over the water.
