BIG4 Walkabout Palms Townsville     Read more ...

We stayed at the Walkabout Palms Big 4 Caravan Park during our visit to Townsville. It is located near the junction of the Bruce and Flinders Highways which is very convenient. Walkabout Palms Caravan Park is about eight kilometres from the centre of town and the Ferry Terminal - easy access to all the tourist attractions.

This park has great facilities for children:

  • resort style pool featuring children’s wading area - spa
  • recreation room with pool table, table tennis, mini soccer game, TV and PlayStation
  • Giant jumping pillow
  • pedal power go karts

Other features of Walkabout Palms Big 4

  • clean amenities - toilets for little ones - disabled facilities
  • camp kitchen
  • 24 hour reception
  • fuel, shop, and cafe.
  • free WIFI to all guests who are staying in the park.

The caravan sites were spacious and easy to access with a slab - some large enough for big rigs - some with ensuites. There are a large number of cabins throughout the park ranging in size from studio to deluxe two bedroom villa (a disabled villa is available with wheel chair access). For those wishing to camp, there are powered and un-powered grass sites available in various areas of this large park.

Walkabout Palms Caravan Park is located behind a Roadhouse but is very secure with an automatic gate across the entrance. The roadhouse has a shop selling fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, groceries, souvenirs etc, and I understand it is open seven days a week. We found the service to be very friendly and helpful.

BIG4 Townsville Woodlands Holiday Park     Read more ...

Woodlands Holiday Park on the northern side of Townsville is a member of BIG4 parks with a large new recreation area. This park is located on the Bruce highway and there were lots of road works in progress during our visit. This was unfortunate as it has created lots of dust and access is a little tricky - turn at the lights.

This park has two pools – a small one near the cabins at the front entrance and a large pool at the back of the park in an area that also houses a great water park for small children. Alongside the water park and water slides are a children’s play area, large chess set, giant connect 4 game, jumping pillow and an 18 hole mini golf range. An undercover barbeques area is located at the end of Dolphin Drive and close to playgrounds.

We were given access to one of the Villas at the Park which has a two way bathroom with a small living area, verandah and car parking space. We also say a studio type cabins near the front of the park - small and old but also very clean.

Woodlands Holiday Park has plenty of ensuite sites and some permanent vans, with a lovely shaded amenities block towards the rear of the park.

The gardens contain a large number of palms trees providing shade but not a lot of grass as it had been dry.  The Park offers caravan storage, unpowered camping sites, dump point, boom gate, kiosk and movie nights.  It is only 14 kilometres from the centre of Townsville and a convenient place to stay when visiting north Queensland.

Coconut Glen Van Park     Read more ...

Coconut Glen Van Park is on a main road in Townsville near an industrial area and close to the intersection of the Bruce Highway - convenient for an overnight stay when heading north.

The Park has a gig entrance and easy parking while checking in.  We did notice that there a a number of permanent vans in this park and some did not seem to be in great condition.  Old sites but plenty of space and a range of cabins - family, studio and tourist. This park looked run down during our visit in September 2016, and the owner/manager seemed to be very tired.

Coral Coast Tourist Park - Townsville     Read more ...

Coral Coast Tourist Park is located in an industrial area of Townsville which does not look that inviting BUT you will be surprised at this lovely little park one you look around. This caravan park  is a member of Top parks and located on a busy road but there is enough room to park with the van while checking in.

We drove through the beautiful tropical gardens to have a look at the sites and cabins.  Angled site parking with one way streets make access very easy and the palms and trees provide plenty of shade.  It has a drive through dump point – great to pull over and empty toilet while towing the van and still allowing other to pass. The amenities block is old but clean and there is a shaded swimming pool located in the central part of the park.

We thought it was very well designed and seemed to be well patronised.  The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Rowes Bay Beachfront Holiday Park     Read more ...

While visiting Townsville on a recent caravan adventure we stayed at the Rowes Bay Beachfront Holiday Park which had been recommended by friends. This is a very large park across the road from Rowes Bay. Angled sites allowing for easy access with cement slab for the awning - NOTE check the map to make sure you drive in the right way to make backing easy. Each site has a row of trees or bushes separating you van from your neighbour. Some sites are large enough for motor homes and 5th wheelers.

There are a range of villas or cabins which are located at the front of the park and it appears to be very popular with families as it is directly across the road from the Bay, lovely parks with picnic tables and play equipment as well as walking tracks.

Rowes Bay Beachfront Holiday Park has huge amount of unpowered camping spots, camp kitchen, barbeque facilities, resort style pool and three amenities blocks (very clean).

It is the closest caravan park to the Strand and we had an enjoyable day cycling along the foreshore of Rowes Bay, past Jezzine Barracks and through the beautiful parklands of The Strand before visiting the historical centre of town.

There is a great fish and chip shop within walking distance of the park and we found we hardly needed to use the car during our stay.

I would not hesitate to stay at Rowes Bay when I next visit sunny north Queensland.

The Lakes Holiday Park     Read more ...

The Lakes Holiday Park in Townsville is located close to Castle town Shopping World and easy to access from Woolcock Street.  There is a visitor car park near reception and space to park the van while checking in. The park has a number of one way streets for easy access and several sites overlooking Curralea Lake.

It is situated next to a Mecure Resort and tennis courts, with Red Rooster, Sizzler and Pizza Hut just outside the boom gates near the entrance to the park.

Lakes Holiday Park has a lovely shaded pool and camp kitchen with barbeque facilities.  Nice looking cabins along the right hand side of the entrance with various configurations to suit most visitors - units, villas and bungalow accommodation.  All powered sites have their own ensuite with cement slabs - these were very reasonable and prices at $38 per night (September 2016).

The whole park has curb and guttering with neat and tidy gardens and plenty of palm trees for shade.  We found the staff to be friendly and helpful - pets are allowed on sites but check with management.

This park also offers vehicle and van storage if you want to head over to magnetic Island or somewhere without the van for few days. A great spot in Townsville.

Town and Country Caravan Park     Read more ...

This is a small caravan park located about 10 minutes from the city centre.  There are plenty of trees for shade and slab sites for caravans, as well as unpowered camping sites. The Town and Country Caravan Park can be found in a busy commercial area and next to the showground.

I understand there is a pub within walking distance for meals and the park is not far from a large shopping centre with a variety of shops including a supermarket and service station.

The owners were friendly and welcoming - happy for us to look around. The amenities appear to be well maintained and are conveniently located in the centre of the park. This would be a convenient place to stay when visiting Townsville.
