Villa Holiday Park     Read more ...

We stayed overnight at the Villa Caravan Park in Roma during our caravan adventure through outback Queensland. This Park is located on the Carnarvon Highway (67-75 Northern Road) and we were allocated a drive-through site in order to stay hooked up overnight. This was a very narrow site (not really enough room to put out an awning) but easy to drive into. We had a lovely couple parked next to us who gave us some great tips on interesting places to stay during our journey north.

The Villa Caravan Park aslo offers ensuite sites as well as camping areas. They have plenty of cabins available for accommodation - non-ensuite or ensuite cabins up to deluxe villas. A pool and children's playground with plenty of shade - Villa Caravan Park is dog-friendly. No keys are required for the amenities and we found them to be clean and tidy.

Big Rig Tourist Park     Read more ...

During our last trip through Queensland we stayed at the Big Rig Tourist Park while in Roma. This park is a member of Top Parks and offers discounts for members. We were allocated a large site next to the fence on the Major Street side of the park. This was a little tricky to back onto as it was near some of the workforce accommodation provided at the Park. The drainage point for the outlet hose was at ground level which was a nice change from some of our previous caravan parks.

Upon arrival the manager hops in a cart to escort you to the site which is very helpful as the park has a number of pockets around the grounds for caravan and/or camping.

The entrance to Big Rig Tourist Park is from McDowall Street and you can park near the reception office while you check in - plenty of space. On many of the sites you will need to park your car across the front of the caravan but we were able to park beside the cement slab.

There are two amenities blocks in the park which are old but adequate with shower curtains and small shelves to place your things while taking a shower - disabled facilities are available. The roads are gravel which was great after the heavy rain the night before. There are various types of cabins both single and double (some new and some not so new) – self-contained villas, workforce accommodation, as well as two houses for families.

Big Rig Tourist Park  is central to Roma's main street., 500 metres from the pubs and restaurants in town, and adjacent to the Big Rig Information Centre.  We did enjoy the location of the Big Rig Tourist park and took the opportunity for long walks and bike rides around town.

Gun Club     Read more ...

The Gun Club in Roma is a few kilometres out of town in a quiet rural area and they offer caravan and camping sites.

Facilities include:

  • caravan and camping year round
  • powered caravan sites are on a fully sealed area around the edge of the car park
  • tie down for awnings are provided by cement filled drums with eye bolts – ingenious as you cannot hammer through the asphalt
  • acres of space for un-powered sites
  • clean amenities
  • children’s playground (fenced)
  • pet friendly

Deck along the gun club is opened most evenings for a pre-dinner drink and this is well supported by those staying on the sites - a great way to meet people. We thought this was a great spot with plenty of trees providing shade – very well patronised.

Apparently someone comes around about 4 pm to collect fees for your overnight stay and during our visit they were charging $25 for powered sites and $15 for un-powered sites. Outside major shooting events at the Club or over the Easter Long Weekend a special is offered - stay 3 nights and receive the 4th free.

This place is neat and tidy and only a short drive to town - we would definitely stay here on our next visit to Roma.
