Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park     Read more ...

During our stay at Mission Beach in northern Queensland we headed to South Mission Beach to visit the Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park, a BIG4 Park on the beach. Lisa (one of the owners) was very welcoming and allowed us to photograph two cabins as soon as they were cleaned (she had people waiting to book in for the weekend). It was busy with a surf carnival but she was happy to give us plenty of time to look around.

This is a lovely looking park with beautiful tropical gardens and plenty of shade. The new owners had recently taken over this BIG4 and were busy working to improve facilities and build more cabins. They have a great resort-style pool with plenty of room for the kids to play - water slide and splash area, Balinese huts and lots of shade.

I was particularly impressed by the camp kitchen which is set in a lovely shady spot overlooking tropical gardens, and I must say the amenities were very clean. Some of the beachfront cabins needs a bit of TLC and they are working on this. Other cabins in the park are great with a variety of options - all with car parking space. The caravan sites are well maintained and mostly separated by gardens for privacy.

Some features of this beautiful park are:

  • Beach frontage
  • TV room with Foxtel
  • outdoor BBQ area
  • ocean stinger net in season
  • Bicycle hire (all sizes)
  • half tennis and basketball court - games room with table tennis and air hockey
  • children's shaded playground
  • hire of sporting equipment like boogie boards, cricket sets, bocce, racquets

I understand that cassowaries can often be seen wandering through the park - please do not feed them, just stand back and admire these amazing birds and check out the colours on their head and neck. No pets allowed as they say Cassowaries and pets don't mix.

The entrance to Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park has a lovely cafe/restaurant (BYO and open 7 days) with plenty of seating in the shade overlooking the ocean. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming and we would not hesitate to stay here on our next trip to Mission Beach.

Bali Hai Tourist Park     Read more ...

Bali Hai Tourist Park is in a lovely tropical setting near the water at Mission Beach in northern Queensland. The sites appeared to be flat and roads are sealed for easy access.

They have powered and un-powered sites and self contained cabins set among the palms. This park is pet friendly and located close to shops and restaurants and just a short stroll to the sand overlooking Dunk Island.

This park was very popular and Mission Beach is a great place to relax and unwind.

Mission Beach Camping Area & Caravan Park     Read more ...

Mission Beach Camping Area and Caravan Park is right on the beach and accessed via Porter Promenade at North Mission.  This is a council run campground with a caretaker onsite - please register on arrival as there are no forward bookings. Free camping is not available in Mission Beach and I am not sure if fines apply.

Dogs are welcome and need to be on a lead at all times at the camping/caravan park grounds. Council Campgrounds have limited facilities – hot showers & laundry. Mission Beach Camping Area and Caravan Park is within walking distance to shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.  It is also located alongside the Visitor Information Centre and a perfect spot for a great holiday.

Mission Beach Hideaway Holiday Village     Read more ...

The Mission Beach Hideaway Holiday Village is a member of Top Parks and the location of our stay while recently travelling along the coast in northern Queensland. It is conveniently located within walking distance to Mission Beach cafes restaurants and bars and the Visitor Information Centre. We were able to look around to choose a site for the van - this is a very large park and there are plenty of sites to choose from. Make sure you check the TV connection when staying at this park as the lead needs to be connected to the Television itself and not the outlet on the outside of the van. Unfortunately we were not told this at check in and I reported a faulty lead on our departure,

During our short stay we noticed lots of small motor homes come and going each day - great sites for these vehicles are provided at the back of the park along the rainforest. Nice pool area with plenty of covered seating, barbeques and camp kitchens. The amenities are clean and accessed using a key (deposit required at check in).

Some features of the park are:

  • slabs for annex at most powered sites
  • grassed powered or unpowered camping sites with shade
  • two amenities blocks (one with baby bath) - laundry facilities
  • games room with big screen TV
  • children’s playground
  • pool and toddlers pool
  • dogs permitted upon application prior to arrival
  • large range of cabins and villas

One problems I found at this large park is that the only garbage bins are large receptacles placed in the middle of the park.
