Winter Sun Cabin & Caravan Park     Read more ...

WinterSun Cabin and Caravan Park is a member of Top Parks located on the Stuart Highway as you come into Alice Springs from Tennant Creek. Local owners who grew up in Alice Springs and the caravan park is only about two kilometres north of the city centre. This smallish park has grassy sites with plenty of shade, and seems to be neat and tidy - a very nice looking park.

Some of the features of this friendly little park are:

  • two amenities blocks - laundry
  • range of cabins with ensuites - two bedroom and studio
  • powered sites – large - some have slabs
  • swimming pool with some shade
  • camp kitchen with shaded outdoor eating area
  • dump point

Apparently WinterSun Cabin and Caravan Park offers van storage for 4WD trips or tours- this is a great idea as we cannot take our caravan everywhere. There are a range of shops about 400 metres - supermarket, newsagent, takeaway, butcher and even a hairdresser.

BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park     Read more ...

BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park is located on Palm Place, Alice Springs. It is at the foot of the West MacDonnell Ranges, and a short easy drive to the centre of town. This is definitely the nicest looking caravan park that we saw in Alice Springs and were very pleased we chose to stay at this location. In fact it was so welcoming and comfortable that we extended our stay. This BIG4 park is huge, very well maintained with beautiful gardens, grassed areas and lots of shade.

The pool area is definitely worth a mention with four pools to choose from including a lap pool and water slide. Around the seating areas beside the pool is artificial grass which is very soft underfoot and there are NO bindies.

Each Sunday the MacDonnell Range Caravan Park provides a free pancake breakfast for all guests with tea and coffee, plus a range of toppings. The flat barbeque arrives on the back of a custom built trailer and quickly cooks up a great supply of delicious pancakes - each almost the size of a dinner plate. This is a great way to meet other people staying at the park and to interact with the staff.

The features of this park are extensive and I will try to mention most of them:

  • range of cabins – each with carports for shade and lovely gardens. Barbeques provided among the cabins for guests
  • at least 4 amenities blocks which are very clean with plenty of space
  • family bathrooms with toilet, bathtub and hand basin
  • laundry facilities – plenty of clothes lines outside each laundry for convenience
  • large number of ensuite sites. Wide and grassed with lots of shade
  • two jumping pillows for children of all ages with height restriction on smaller pillow
  • games room and separate TV room
  • two large children’s playgrounds
  • hire pedal bikes
  • large shaded powered caravan and camping sites with grass and/or cement slab Unpowered sites with plenty of grass
  • separate area for bus groups with parking, grass for camping or bunk rooms nearby – each section has its own hot water system and shaded area for food preparation
  • large camp kitchen with great facilities and lots of shaded seating. Toasters, electric kettles, barbeques, large fridge and freezer - a hot water system beneath each sink
  • shop beside reception - grocery items, souvenirs as well as beer and wine
  • boom gate for security
  • dump point which is a toilet located outside one of the amenities buildings

A staff member met us at our site on arrival to help with parking (if required), and to make sure we were happy with our location. We also noticed that a staff member would quickly come around to check sites after a departure and mow or water the grass if necessary. RvTrips highly recommend this BIG4 caravan park and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Heavitree Gap Caravan Park     Read more ...

Heavitree Gap Caravan Park is located on Palm Circuit in Alice Springs - at the base of the MacDonnell Ranges and only a short distance to town. They are pet friendly and have a supermarket, tavern and bottle shop right next door. You will notice a police car in the photos and these are stationed at the bottle shops during opening hours.

This park was looking a bit tired and worse for wear after the busy tourist season in central Australia (between May and September). There are quite a few trees scattered throughout the park which provide shade for caravan and camping sites. The overnight price for sites was very cheap compared to other parks in the area. They have powered and un-powered sites and the usual amenities.

Apparently the Wild Black Footed Rock Wallabies are fed at the lodge each evening and this is popular with the guests of the park. This park did not look very inviting to us .

Heritage Caravan Park     Read more ...

Heritage Caravan Park is located on Ragonesi Road Alice Springs, Northern Territory. This park seemed to have a large number of permanent sites. There was a lovely large swimming pool but the park itself was not as well maintained as others in the area. There is a shop on-site that sells spare parts for caravans and seemed to have lots of bits and pieces that may be required by any RV visitor to the area.

Some other features of the Heritage Caravan Park are:

  • camp kitchen
  • amenities – some seemed to be old containers remodelled. Disabled facilities.
  • Mini shop
  • cabins (a little old and tired)
  • powered and unpowered sites
  • claim to be the most pet friendly park in the Alice and even have a dog wash
  • boom gates
